Reload Test: H&G 107A Wadcutter w/ 5.0g Unique

Today I tested Tom Dugas's H&G 107A Wadcutters charged with 5.0 grains of Unique powder and shot at 50 yards through a Henry Big Boy 44 Magnum rifle with a peep sight. As you can see, the group was excellent, but I did experience a major jam due to the minimal case length. This bullet / powder combination proved to be excellent, but not through the Henry, unless you plan to hand feed the round. The reloading expert at Henry warned me of this, and I proved him to be right. It took a gunsmith to free up the action today.

NOTE: The 2 fliers you see above the target were the result of originally having my sights set at 100 yards.

  1. Nice shooting there Bob,sorry about your troubles with the lever gun and WC's. I feel certain once you switch to either the RN or RNFP bullets and get your load worked up you should be able to duplicate that accuracy or at least get pretty close.

  2. Thanks Ronnie, but that's how I learn. If it didn't jam, I wouldn't bother warning others about the possible problem.
